This week’s Top Comics to Buy for June 11 is an interesting list that features a lot of old things coming back new again. Chief among them is Umbrella Academy Plan B #1, which (obviously) is a new #1 comic that picks up right where Umbrella Academy left off. Conversely, Absolute Batman #9 is (again, obviously) the ninth issue in the run, but with regular series artist Nick Dragotta returning after a break plus the unveil of a new Absolute Universe character, it feels like the true start of a new chapter for one of the year’s buzziest books.
All of that is to say I felt this week had a great mix of new things that feel familiar. And that even extends to books like Robin and Batman: Jason Todd, as well as the very interest Toxie Team-Up #1. Anyway, you can find a bit more about why I recommend all of these books below, along with the usual weekly release lists … enjoy!
Top Comics to Buy for June 11, 2025
Absolute Batman #9
Writer: Scott Snyder
Artist: Nick Dragotta
Colorist: Frank Martin
Letterer: Clayton Cowles
Publisher: DC Comics
The latest development in saving the derelict and despondent of our society is a facility known as Ark M–a fully operational institution that has played a rather sizeable part, on purpose or not, in the creation of evil. And it’s active. So when Bruce tries infiltrate it and distill its secrets, a new villain from Gotham City arrives to deal with the problem…an old adversary of Alfred’s…a man known only as Bane.
Why It’s Cool: One of the things for sale with an alternate universe like the one in the Absolute books is seeing different versions of familiar characters. Absolute Batman has delivered that with its lead, depicting Batman as much much physically bigger than he is typically drawn. So, what then does that mean for Bane? Well, in this book we learn that it means he is even bigger than big beefy Batman. And the way it plays out here courtesy of the books fully-returned main series creative team is very scary (complimentary).

Robin & Batman: Jason Todd #1
Writer: Jeff Lemire
Artist: Dustin Nguyen
Letterer: Steve Wands
Publisher: DC Comics
Batman has a new Robin: a rash, impulsive, reckless kid with a troubled past, who Batman was certain he could mold into Gotham’s next crime-fighter. But can the Dark Knight save Jason Todd from the darkness within himself? And when a mysterious new villain sets his sights on Jason, Batman finds himself doubtful that even he has what it takes to train the anger and torment out of his new young ward.
Why It’s Cool: And for an entirely different sort of Batman comic this week, we also get Robin & Batman: Jason Todd, from the well-tread creative team of Jeff Lemire and Dustin Nguyen. This is the team’s second time teaming up to center Robin in a mini-series, after having done it previously with Dick Grayson. As the title implies, this time around it’s Jason Todd, and putting that character at the heart of such a good-looking book makes for a compelling (and angsty) first of three issues.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #9
Writer: Jason Aaron
Artist: Juan Ferreyra
Letterer: Shawn Lee
Publisher: IDW Publishing
Already weakened, weary, and a little deranged, poor Donatello has now been captured by the Foot Clan! The remaining Turtle boys make a plan for an all-out war against Karai, but are forced to think twice when they hear the voice of reason… coming from the body of a dead rat?
Why It’s Cool: It’s probably unrealistic to expect artist Juan Ferreyra to draw every mainline Turtles book from now and forever on, but imagine what a thing that would be? Ferreyra has absolutely crushed it in his time on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and this issue is no exception. As the action continues to escalate in this art, Ferreyra delivers a set of kinetic and bold visuals that continue to make Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles a must-read.

Toxie Team-Up #1
Writer: Mark Russell
Artist: Richard Pace
Color Art Assistant: Casbri Studios
Letterer: Rob Steen
Publisher: AHOY Comics
Spinning straight out of his acclaimed solo title, the Toxic Avenger battles alongside some of comics’ greatest and most controversial superstars in this surprise limited series. First up, from AHOY’s own Second Coming: Jesus Christ, the Son of God!
Why It’s Cool: This book takes two of my favorite comics from AHOY! — Toxic Avenger and Second Coming — and mashes them together. And because the protagonist of Second Coming is Jesus Christ, the result is seeing the Toxic Avenger team-up in comics with Jesus Christ. To be totally honest, this book had me with this amazing cover by Fred Harper. But add to that a script by Mark Russell and artwork by Richard Pace, and you’ve got what is easily one of the Top Comics to Buy for June 11.
Price: $3.99
Umbrella Academy Plan B #1
Writer: Gerard Way
Artist: Gabriel Ba
Colorist: Dave Stewart
Letterer: Nate Piekos
Publisher: Dark Horse Comics
After the mass release of The City’s greatest foes and the chaos that followed in Hotel Oblivion, the Umbrella Academy face their most fearsome challenge to date-their other brothers and sisters. Known only as The Sparrows, they share a different connection to Sir Reginald Hargreeves and Mom. No one knows how to hurt each other more than family, and this powerful, ruthless brood will spare no brutality in favor of their sole objective-control, and the obedient glare that comes with it.
Why It’s Cool: In brief — because Umbrella Academy is back! But if you want a bit more than that, let me just say I think this is both a pretty good continuation and jumping on issue. Also, if you’d like more of a deeper dive, you can read a full review of this first issue via our Wednesday Comics column.
