Via Forbes magazine, IDW Publishing has announced Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles x Godzilla, the first comic to pit the heroes in a half-shell against the King of the Monsters. Written by Tim Seeley with art by Fero Pe, the series will reimagine the Foot Clan as having been founded to protect Japan from kaiju like Godzilla, except it now seems their leader Shredder is responsible for the monsters’ reappearance in the present day, as part of an apparent ploy to harvest their DNA for his troops. Regardless, Leonardo, Raphael, Michaelangelo, and Donatello will have to head to Japan to stop the monsters.

Editor Jake Williams states, “There are maybe two or three other ideas in the entire cultural landscape that are as instantly iconic, as perfect in their clarity and conception, as the King of the Monsters and the heroes in a half-shell. Mashing them up has been a complete and utter joy. These characters are so perfectly realized that working on this comic feels like bearing witness to a natural encounter between living and breathing beings.”
Seeley previously penned the new IDW Godzilla comic, which marks the start of the publisher’s shared Kai-Sei Era universe, as well as a story in this year’s Godzilla vs. America: Chicago, while Pe rendered the 2023 crossover TMNT x Stranger Things.
Issue #1 will be released on November 12; you can check out more artwork until then over at Forbes. In the meantime, the turtles will co-star in IDW and BOOM! Studios’ latest crossover, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III (starting August 13), and Godzilla will continue to headline more crossovers, like Godzilla Destroys the Marvel Universe (which began on July 16), and DC’s Justice League vs. Godzilla vs. Kong 2 (the third issue of which arrives on August 6.) The trade paperback of Godzilla vs. the Marvel Universe, collecting this year’s new one-shots, will also be released on September 30, while the collection of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles x Naruto will follow on October 7.
