My fellow Trekkies, welcome to the best holiday of the year: Star Trek Day! The annual celebration of the Star Trek fandom occurs each year on September 8th, the day that Star Trek: The Original Series debuted to households across the United States (fun fact: the popular science fiction series created by Gene Roddenberry debuted in Canada two days prior to its U.S. release, on September 6th).
To celebrate Star Trek Day 2025, The Beat shares Deputy Managing Editor Ollie Kaplan‘s San Diego Comic-Con 2025 interview with some of the creative minds behind IDW Publishing‘s current line of Star Trek comics. While at SDCC 2025, Kaplan spoke to some of IDW’s current Star Trek line writers Christopher Cantwell (Star Trek: Redshirts), Tilly Bridges and Susan Bridges (Star Trek: Voyager – Homecoming), and Collin Kelly and Jackson Lanzing (Star Trek: The Last Starship) about each writer’s current and/or upcoming series, what fans can expect from these latest Star Trek titles, and their favorite franchise episodes that have inspired them. Also included is our joint pitch for what I think could be the next best Star Trek story to come out of IDW’s reign: a cooking manga with Neelix.
