Just in time for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Marvel Comics will release Spider-Man: Long Way Home, a five-issue series by Jonathan Hickman and Adam Kubert that’ll similarly team up Peter Parker with the Hulk and the Punisher. Like Hickman and Greg Capullo‘s series Wolverine: Revenge, the book will offer a standalone story set in another version of the Marvel Universe, where the lead trio will find themselves competing against each other for possession of a Cosmic Cube in South America.
It’s a world before the Punisher. A world where the existence of the Hulk is but a whisper of a rumor. A world where A.I.M. has just developed a Cosmic Cube in the jungles of South America. Frank Castle, Bruce Banner and Peter Parker are all on a mission to keep the Cube out of the wrong hands – including each other’s. In this three-way free-for-all for the power of the cosmos, who will come out on top?
Hickman, who previously worked with Kubert on his Avengers run in 2013, states, “I’m so happy to be working with Adam Kubert again and even happier that we’re getting to work on Spider-Man: Long Way Home. Absolutely no one is going to see this one coming.”
Kubert adds, “[Editor] Jordan [D. White] barely got the words out before I yelled ‘Yes!’ to Spider-Man: Long Way Home. A five-issue Hickman saga with Spidey, Hulk, and Punisher? Total no-brainer. With [colorist] Frank Martin making the mayhem pop! Just Make Mine Marvel!”
The book’s announcement comes after the conclusion of Hickman and Marco Checchetto‘s Ultimate Spider-Man run, which ended with issue #24 last month. (The new Ultimate Universe as a whole will bow out with a Finale special in June.) It is the second book Marvel has announced to capitalize on Brand New Day, following the new ongoing by Dan Slott, Marcus To, and Marcos Martín, starting May 13.
Issue #1 of Long Way Home will be released on June 17. It will be available with a foil variant cover by Dave Johnson, which you can check out below with an interior preview. Spider-Man: Brand New Day, starring Tom Holland, Mark Ruffalo, and Jon Bernthal, will follow in theaters on July 31. Kubert’s latest series for Marvel, Hulk: Smash Everything, will conclude in the meantime with issue #5 on April 22.
