Just in time for Spider-Man: Brand New Day‘s release in theaters this summer, Marvel Comics will revisit the original 2008-2010 storyline with Spectacular Spider-Man: Brand New Day, a five-issue series by Dan Slott and Marcus To. The book, which begins in May, will feature the Kingpin, Mister Negative, and the Punisher, and also include a series of back-ups written and drawn by Marcos Martin.

Spider-Man discovers one of the most valuable items the Kingpin, A.K.A. Wilson Fisk, possesses — THE LEXICON. This directory of the Kingpin’s criminal enterprise could destroy the criminal landscape of New York City and that’s Spider-Man’s goal when he takes it. But Fisk isn’t the only person who wants the Lexicon… Mr. Negative would love his competitor’s secret information, but so would Frank Castle himself, the Punisher. Taking the Lexicon sure seemed like a good idea to make the city safer, but it’s painted the biggest target ever on Spider-Man’s back!
Slott was one of the original architects of “Brand New Day,” which marked the start of his ten-year run on The Amazing Spider-Man. He admits the project is no surprise, stating, “Spider-Man is my favorite character in all of fiction. Heart on my sleeve here — I love writing Spider-Man. We’re going to reveal hidden secrets and plant explosive seeds that will pay off and affect what’s happening in Spider-Man’s world today! These will be stories that matter and that will have major consequences!”
He adds, “We’ve got the killer art team of Marvel’s biggest secret weapon, Marcus To, and new shorts by the Inkpot Award-winning legend, Marcos Martin! With Marcus, this is going to be one of the best looking books on the stand, and with Marcos, we’re going to have these incredible short features that will ensure that NEW readers can jump right in, even if they’ve never read a Brand New Day issue!” Martin previously worked on some of the most acclaimed stories of Slott’s Amazing run, including the finale in issue #801.
The series completes a hat-trick for Slott, who after writing Amazing, penned the launch of the adjectiveless Spider-Man series in 2022. Peter Parker, the Spectacular Spider-Man, which is traditionally the third ongoing Spider-Man comic, was last active as the Peter and Miles Morales team-up series Spectacular Spider-Men in 2024 (written by Greg Weisman, the co-creator of its beloved animated namesake), and before that in 2018.
Issue #1 will be released May 13, with a cover by Phil Jimenez (another veteran of the original “Brand New Day” run), and a variant by Pat Gleason. You can check out the latter along with an unlettered two-page preview below. The Brand New Day movie, which still doesn’t have a trailer at the time of writing, will be released on July 31.
