Anime history is making its way to fans’ shelves this fall. The landmark 1968 series Sasuke will be released in North America for the very first time in a complete Blu-ray collection on October 14, 2025, featuring a brand-new restoration, English subtitles, and a never-before-heard English dub.
Directed by Kiyoshi Onishi and based on the original manga by Sanpei Shirato, Sasuke tells the story of a young ninja navigating Japan’s bloody Sengoku era. Known for its unflinching violence and dark portrayal of war, the series was groundbreaking for its time—and went on to inspire later ninja classics, including Naruto and the creation of Sasuke Uchiha.
Set in the 17th century, the series follows Sasuke, the son of Sarutobi clan warrior Daisuke Ozaru. After his mother’s brutal murder and under the belief that his father has been killed, Sasuke grows up as an orphan. But unbeknownst to him, the wanderer who takes him in is actually his father in disguise. In secret, Daisuke trains Sasuke to become a master ninja, preparing him to one day avenge his family and strike back against Lord Tokugawa’s oppressive empire.
