Power Pulp Comics has added legendary cartoonist Rick Veitch and acclaimed indie creator Katie Skelly to their roster. Billed as “a creator-led distro model disguised as a publisher,” Power Pulp is one of the distribution models that has sprung up in today’s wild wild west of comics, and Veitch and Skelly’s self-published works have been added to the Power Pulp line-up.
Power Pulp is a collective of self-published creators and artists who sell direct to retailers – offering one catalog with more than 40 creators, including Sammy Harkham, John Kelly, and other recent recruits Mike Boheem, creator of the Dopecat Comics series, and UK-based creative team Tom Wilkins and Louis Williams of Monolith Comics.
With Veitch and Skelly they’ve added two A-listers to the catalog:
Rick Veitch is a lifelong cartoonist whose career spans more than FIVE decades and includes an incredible body of work across mainstream, independent, and self-published comics. With a resume that includes Swamp Thing, Can’t Get No, Army@Love, as well as the cult classics Brat Pack, The Maximortal, and Rare Bit Fiends, Veitch has long stood as a defining voice in comics. A co-founder of Eureka Comics and named Vermont State Cartoonist Laureate in 2020, his work continues to push the boundaries of the medium while staying deeply rooted in its traditions.
Joining him is Katie Skelly, an acclaimed indie cartoonist known for her distinct voice and striking visual style. Her books—including My Pretty Vampire, Maids, and The Agency—have made her a standout figure in contemporary comics. In addition to her work as a creator, Skelly co-hosts the Thick Lines podcast, edits the Viscere horror anthology series, and has developed her own deck of divination cards, further expanding her reach across comics and art communities.
The many small self-published cartoonists who populated the back of Diamond’s catalog have all pivoted to new models. Some have joined larger entities – see Terry Moore’s Abstract Studios joining Dark Horse, or Coffin Comics teaming with Dynamite. The Power Pulp collective is yet another way to team up while remaining independent.
Power Pulp launched last summer and has been shoring up their internal operations among founders Chris Anderson, James Coats, John Coats, and Jamie Jones. Readers can order directly from their website, but they also serve comics shops offering a 50% wholesale discount and free shipping on orders over $200.
