Fan Expo Canada 2009 drew a record-breaking crowd of more than 59, 000 fans over three days this past weekend, a 23% increase in attendance from last year’s event. This was the 15th anniversary celebration as well as the biggest event to date for Hobby Star Marketing.
Fan Expo Canada, the largest combined gaming, horror, comic, science fiction and anime event in the country, took place at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, South Building August 28-30, 2009. Owned and operated by Hobby Star Marketing, Fan Expo Canada offers fans of every genre the chance to meet their favourite celebrities and pop culture heroes at autograph and photo sessions; participate in informational workshops with industry experts offering advice, tips and portfolio reviews; and shop for exclusive Fan Expo offers, collectables and memorabilia from more than 600 vendors.
Premium package tickets were sold out a week in advance for the first time ever, while regular ticket holder attendance numbers greatly surpassed expectations of 50, 000. “This was the biggest crowd we’ve seen to date! We‘re thrilled that so many fans of all ages came out to celebrate pop culture at the 15th annual Fan Expo Canada,” said Aman Gupta, President of Hobby Star Marketing and Organizer of Fan Expo Canada. “Looking forward to 2010, we are constantly exploring new ways to offer visitors unique experiences as we endeavour to build a bigger and better show each year for our continually growing fan base. The 2010 event promises to feature our most exciting and diverse guest list ever.”
Highlights of this year’s event included Disney’s Tron Legacy Light Cycle exhibit, Rogers Ultimate Gamers Lounge, and guest appearances by Leonard Nimoy, Leslie Nielsen, Linda Hamilton, Bruce Campbell, Lou Ferrigno, Roger Corman, Beau Bridges, Billy Dee Williams, Dave Thomas and many others. From guests and exhibitors to panelists and participants, everyone was truly impressed by the dedication, enthusiasm, and passion of Toronto fans.
