At last night’s 77th annual Primetime Emmy Awards, Cristin Milioti won the award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for her performance as Sofia Gigante (née Falcone) in The Penguin. The award, which marked the 40-year old actress’s first Emmy nomination, was the sole prize for the series on the big night, with lead actor Colin Farrell losing his nomination to Adolescence‘s Stephen Graham, although the show had picked up eight Creative Arts Emmys last week, including Outstanding Prosthetic Makeup, and Music Composition.

In her acceptance speech, a flustered Milioti thanked her family, and The Penguin showrunner Lauren LeFranc (who was nominated for writing the series finale, but lost to Adolescence creators Stephen Graham and Jack Thorne). She beat out Cate Blanchett (who was nominated for Disclaimer), Meghann Fahy (Sirens), Rashida Jones (Black Mirror), and Michelle Williams (Dying for Sex). Milioti, who’s no stranger to Black Mirror, previously won an Astra TV Award, Critics’ Choice Award, Critics’ Choice Super Award, and Saturn Award for her portrayal of Sofia.

Genre TV was further recognized last night, with Dan Gilroy‘s win in the category of Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series for Andor season two, episode nine, “Welcome to the Rebellion.” The award marks the first Primetime, non-Creative Arts Emmy for a Star Wars show. Similarly, Britt Lower and Tramell Tillman respectively won Outstanding Lead Actress, and Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series, for their work on the Apple TV+ sci-fi series Severance.

Adolescence was ultimately the night’s big winner, scoring six Emmys, including Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series, while The Studio came second with four wins, including Outstanding Comedy Series. (The Pitt came third with three Emmys, including Outstanding Drama Series.)
