Lemire elaborates on his blog, revealing the series will consist of three books. He provides a synopsis, explaining it follows Marty McCabe, “who was once the world’s greatest occult detective, Mr. Oblivion, but now, twenty-years later, sells real estate in the suburbs and struggles with middle-age, marriage, and a teenaged daughter. But, when the demons of his past return (literally), Marty must once again put on the fabled Merlin Mask to save his family, even if it eats his soul alive.”

The first volume, Incantations, will arrive in 2027. Lemire also shares he has two more standalone books in the works for HarperAlley, one of which will feature art by Charlie Adlard (The Walking Dead). The other books in the initial adult line-up will include a memoir by Chad Sell (The Cardboard Kingdom), titled Vreeland, and The ArchAndroid, an adaptation of Janelle Monáe‘s sci-fi album, by Monáe, Chuck Lightning, and Chad Weatherford (The Dragon Prince).

Andrew Arnold, VP and publisher of HarperAlley, tells PW, “Since launching our children’s graphic novel program in the fall of 2020, HarperAlley has made it our mission to put creators at the core of everything we do. We are excited to apply the same philosophy to the books we publish in the adult market, championing our creators’ unique talents, and continuing to produce some of the best comics in the industry.”

HarperAlley currently plans to release 6–10 adult books a year, with at least 2–3 a season. For more covers and artwork in the meantime, head to PW and Lemire’s newsletter.
