Marvel Comics has announced next year’s X-Men relaunch Shadows of Tomorrow will feature the first solo series for New Mutants member Dani Moonstar. Simply titled Moonstar, the five-issue series is written by Ashley Allen (Magik), with art by Edoardo Audino (Astonishing X-Men Infinity Comic), and will see the Cheyenne psychic embark on a mission to reclaim an ancient weapon.

DEATH AWAITS DANI MOONSTAR! When an ancient, soul-sucking weapon is set loose, it’s up to Dani to track it down! But the weapon’s deadly wielder won’t make it easy for her. After recent tragedies, can Dani trust herself to save those closest to her? Or will her self-doubts lead to even more bloodshed?
Allen states, “I’m so excited to be returning to tell the next chapter of Dani’s story! She has been such a monumental character in both the Marvel Universe and in people’s lives – exemplifying what it means to be a true leader. I can’t believe this is the character’s first-ever solo series and I can’t wait to show readers what adventure we have in store for Dani!”
Audino adds, “Working on the first-ever Dani Moonstar solo series feels great, especially after reading the Magik run written by Ashley. In this story there’s everything I want as a reader — magic, fighting, even a little bit of romance — so getting to draw it is super fun! And on top of that, I got to do one of my favorite things in comics: designing a brand new villain!”
Moonstar #1 will be released on March 4, with a main cover by Allen’s main Magik collaborator German Peralta, as well as variants by Joshua “Sway” Swaby, Marcos Martin, and Dani’s co-creator Bob McLeod. You can check those out along with an uncolored interior preview page below.
In the meantime, current X-Men event storyline Age of Revelation will wrap up with a special on December 31, and Shadows of Tomorrow will begin the following week with X-Men #23, and Wolverine #14. A relaunch of Allen’s previous series starring a New Mutant, Magik & Colossus, will begin on February 4.
