Lucasfilm has released the first trailer for The Mandalorian and Grogu movie, directed by Jon Favreau and starring Pedro Pascal.
From the trailer, it appears life is going back to normal for Din Djarin (Pascal) and Grogu following the events of The Mandalorian season three, which saw the pair lead their people in reclaiming their homeworld of Mandalore from Moff Gideon’s Imperial remnant. The masked bounty hunter and his adopted son are now taking on missions in a new Razor Crest, taking on more Imperial remnants in their AT-ATs, and teaming up with the diminutive Anzellans (Babu Frik’s people) on a mission in the sewers.
Additionally, we get our first glimpse of Sigourney Weaver as an unnamed New Republic pilot, and a muscular Hutt gladiator fighting in a pit (heavily rumored to be Jeremy Allen White as Rotta, Jabba the Hutt’s son, who was introduced as a baby in The Clone Wars movie.) Last but not least, there’s the soaring return of The Mandalorian theme, composed by Ludwig Göransson, who did not score the third season, but is returning for the film.
The trailer’s release comes at an awkward time for Lucasfilm, following the suspension of Jimmy Kimmel Live! by its respective parent and sister company Disney and ABC. After FCC chairman Brendan Carr threatened ABC and its affiliates over comments Kimmel made on the show about the government’s response to the assassination of right-wing activist Charlie Kirk, the show was put on an indefinite hiatus, sparking intense criticism.
Kimmel, who has been respectful about Kirk’s death and his family, said in his monologue that “the MAGA gang [was] desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them, and doing everything they can to score political points from it.” Pascal himself is among those who’ve expressed support for Kimmel’s right to free speech online, and Disney’s stocks have fallen as a result of a boycott supporting the talk show host.
Whatever happens next, Star Wars will return to theaters in time for its 49th anniversary, with The Mandalorian and Grogu set to arrive on regular and IMAX screens on May 22, 2026.
