With only three months to go before its arrival in theaters and IMAX on May 22, Lucasfilm has finally released the second trailer for The Mandalorian and Grogu, and with it a very big spoiler for the cast that we’ll dive into, after the jump.
The evil Empire has fallen, and Imperial warlords remain scattered throughout the galaxy. As the fledgling New Republic works to protect everything the Rebellion fought for, they have enlisted the help of legendary Mandalorian bounty hunter Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and his young apprentice Grogu.
That’s right, Pedro Pascal himself will actually be seen as Din Djarin, marking the first time he’s played the character onscreen (instead of just voicing him) since the second season of The Mandalorian in 2020. The character broke his brethren’s code and took off his mask in others’ presence to save his adopted son in season two, meaning he made sure to keep it on to regain his place among his people in The Book of Boba Fett and The Mandalorian season three.
This was presumably amenable for Lucasfilm, given how busy Pascal has become, between starring in The Last of Us, playing the MCU’s Reed Richards in The Fantastic Four: First Steps and Avengers: Doomsday, and more, but it makes his comeback on camera all the more of a surprise. This time, Djarin gets stripped of his helmet before the Hutt Twins, who force him to battle a giant worm-like creature with his face unprotected.
We also see Sigourney Weaver as the New Republic’s Colonel Ward, the return of Steve Blum as Rebels‘ Zeb Orrelios (who made his first live-action appearance on The Mandalorian season three), and Jeremy Allen White as Jabba the Hutt’s very muscular son Rotta, whom Djarin fights in an underground arena. It’s all capped by the sight of Grogu commandeering another baby’s rocket-powered hover pram, meaning the (still very young) boy can keep up with his father during a high-speed pursuit.
Directed by Jon Favreau, The Mandalorian and Grogu will mark the first Star Wars movie since 2019’s The Rise of Skywalker. It will be followed on May 28, 2027, by Shawn Levy‘s Starfighter, which’ll take place after the sequel trilogy, and eventually by a movie from Dave Filoni, that’ll conclude the post-Return of the Jedi storyline of The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, Skeleton Crew, and Ahsoka (the second season of which will premiere on Disney+ later this year.)
Until then, you can also check out a new poster for The Mandalorian and Grogu below, and watch Maul – Shadow Lord when it premieres on Monday, April 6.
