Jujutsu Kaisen is officially a Crunchyroll exclusive, per a Wednesday morning announcement. The manga itself is written and illustrated by Gege Akutami and published by Shōnen Jump, while Studio MAPPA and director Sunghoo Park, both of whom are currently working on The God of High School, will be handling the show. It’s a dark fantasy/supernatural series about a teen whose life is changed after he eats the dismembered finger of a demonic specter.

Working with MAPPA and Park are: voice actor Junichi Suwabe (My Hero Academia) as Sukuna, the demon whom the finger belonged to, writer Hiroshi Seko (Mob Psycho 100, Attack on Titan), character designer Tadashi HiraMatsu (Yuri!!! On ICE, Parasyte), and composers Hiroaki Tsutsumi, Yoshimasa Terui, and Arisa Okehazama.

Jujutsu Kaisen is relatively new. It debuted in March of 2018 and currently totals over 115 chapters. Some fans have noted that this quick adaptation may become a complication. As is the case in anime adaptation, studios often catch up to the story in the serialization, forcing them to either go on extended hiatus, run some filler episodes and bide for time – or in the case of Fullmetal Alchemist, just write an entirely new, divergent story.

Time will tell how Crunchyroll and MAPPA handle that hypothetical, but in the meantime, Jujutsu Kaisen will almost definitely circulate even more copies. Look for it exclusively on Crunchyroll as part of its upcoming anime season this October, and check out an official synopsis and key art below.

“Hardship, regret, shame: the negative feelings that humans feel become Curses that lurk in our everyday lives. The Curses run rampant throughout the world, capable of leading people to terrible misfortune and even death. What’s more, the Curses can only be exorcised by another Curse.

Itadori Yuji is a boy with tremendous physical strength, though he lives a completely ordinary high school life. One day, to save a friend who has been attacked by Curses, he eats the finger of the Double-Faced Specter, taking the Curse into his own soul. From then on, he shares one body with the Double-Faced Specter. Guided by the most powerful of sorcerers, Gojo Satoru, Itadori is admitted to the Tokyo Metropolitan Technical High School of Sorcery, an organization that fights the Curses… and thus begins the heroic tale of a boy who became a Curse to exorcise a Curse, a life from which he could never turn back.”
