Marvel Studios has released a new movie poster and the final trailer for The Fantastic Four: First Steps, which arrives in theaters everywhere (across the multiverse?) in about one month. Set against a vibrant backdrop of a 1960s-inspired, retro-futuristic world, Marvel’s first family—Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic (Pedro Pascal), Sue Storm/Invisible Woman (Vanessa Kirby), Johnny Storm/Human Torch (Joseph Quinn), and Ben Grimm/The Thing (Ebon Moss-Bachrach)— flies into theaters around the globe on Friday, July 25, 2025.

Marvel’s first family debuted in 1961 in Fantastic Four #1, created by writer Stan Lee and artist Jack Kirby, with lettering by Art Simek. As is emphasized in the most recent First Steps trailer from Marvel Studios, the movie appears to be leaning into what makes the Fantastic Four unique as a superhero team—that they function like a family, with deep personal bonds, intrafamily conflicts, and emotional storylines rooted in the tension of work-life balance.

“Forced to balance their roles as heroes with the strength of their family bond, they must defend Earth from a ravenous space god called Galactus (Ralph Ineson) and his enigmatic Herald, Silver Surfer (Julia Garner),” reads Marvel’s official logline for the film. “And if Galactus’ plan to devour the entire planet and everyone on it weren’t bad enough, it suddenly gets very personal.”

In the final trailer, Marvel decided to go meta, with tongue-and-cheek references to the fandom’s  outspoken desire to hear The Thing use his classic and iconic catchphrase, “It’s clobberin’ time!” At one point in the trailer, Grimm is shown walking down the street when he’s stopped by a fan who demands that he says the phrase. To which, Grimm responds, “That’s only in the cartoon.” The fact that the phrase has only appeared in the cartoon in this corner of the multiverse is different than the phrase’s origin story in our universe, where it first appeared in Fantastic Four #22, by Lee, Kirby, George Roussos, and Sam Rosen.

Packed with cosmic grandeur and a star-studded cast, First Steps officially launches the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Phase Six. While Marvel has said that the film’s story stands alone (thus, it may be a good entry point for new MCU viewers), it will set the stage for major Phase Six events, likely linking into the upcoming Marvel films Avengers: Doomsday (2026) and Avengers: Secret Wars (2027).

The action-adventure film also stars Paul Walter Hauser, Natasha Lyonne, Sarah Niles, and the upcoming actor who willl be playing baby Franklin. The Fantastic Four: First Steps is directed by WandaVision‘s Matt Shakman, produced by Kevin Feige and executive produced by Louis D’Esposito, Grant Curtis, and Tim Lewis.
