With a tagline that reads, “SWORD OF OMENS, GIVE US CUTENESS BEYOND CUTE” how can you go wrong? Dynamite’s Thundercats/The Powerpuff Girls crossover event is set to hit store shelves in June.

The creative team of Paulina Ganucheau and Coleman Engle chatted with The Beat about the pairing and why this team-up had to happen.

Thundercats/The Powerpuff Girls

DEANNA DESTITO: Why is this crossover such a good idea?

PAULINA GANUCHEAU: Well, things that are fun are always a good idea. A Thundercats x The Powerpuff Girls crossover book definitely falls into the fun category! But honestly it’s two quirky superhero teams smashed together in the magical world of Third Earth. Anything can happen! That alone is reason enough to see what adventures this crew can get on.

COLEMAN ENGLE: Two delightfully colorful ensembles working together to solve their mutual problem? What could be better?!

DESTITO: How did this pairing happen?

GANUCHEAU: Nate Cosby, our editor, brought me this idea initially. I think he might be a genius because this team-up is truly inspired. From there I immediately knew I wanted Coleman Engle as the artist. It’s already turning out killer!

ENGLE: I was thankfully asked to join along on this wild ride! Just here to have fun!

DESTITO: What are your favorite characters from both properties?

GANUCHEAU: At this point they’re weirdly all starting to feel like my children, but my favorites as a kid were: Panthro, Cheetara, Blossom, and Buttercup. Yes I’m that annoying person that can never just pick one favorite. They’re all cool, ok?!

ENGLE: My favorites were the Mutants, Lion-o, Snarf, and Blossom as a kid. But now I LOVE drawing them all and everyone is becoming my favorite! The Thundercats’ hair alone is so fun to draw.

DESTITO: Can you tell us a bit about the plot?

GANUCHEAU: Don’t want to give too much away, but here’s the lowdown: Powerpuff Girls fight Mojo Jojo on Earth, he traps them in a rocket, sends them through a wormhole, girls are now stranded on Third Earth, and they must help the Thundercats with their current plight! Bum bum BUH!

ENGLE: Classic fish out of water idea cranked up to a BILLION, with lots of glitter, sparkles, and nostalgia peppered throughout.

DESTITO: How does this crossover affect their worlds?

GANUCHEAU: I don’t know if I can answer this without spoiling things! For now I’ll just say: lasting friendship occurs.

ENGLE: :-X

DESTITO: How has it been working with this team?

GANUCHEAU: Amazing. I love working with Coleman so much. We’re long time friends so it all feels like such a true collaboration. It’s great to work stuff out together. He’s also one of the most talented cartoonists around, so it’s an honor to write anything for him!

ENGLE: Awww, thanks Paulina! I feel exactly the same way! Working with Paulina is a dream come true, she effortlessly tells a beautiful story. She’s the best! We grew up with a lot of the same shows, video games, and comics, so this series really feels like we’re making our own Saturday morning cartoon!

DESTITO: Any teasers for fans?

GANUCHEAU: Thundercats as monsters. That’s all I’ll say.

ENGLE: Snarf’s endless bag of tricks!
