Dark Horse has revealed Grendel: Devil’s Crucible – Sedition, the second series in Matt Wagner’s new Grendel Prime trilogy, will begin this summer. Colored by Brennan Wagner, and lettered by Steve Dutro, Sedition will introduce a futuristic take on Christine Spar, the protagonist of the 1986 run Grendel: Devil’s Legacy.
The Hounds of Orion have two new weapons in their arsenal: The Grendel Prime himself, back from a five-hundred-year absence, and a clone of the fierce, long-dead Grendel warrior Christine Spar! Now it’s time to take the fight to the Necro-Lords, and the hordes of Anti-Grendel squads between Grendel Prime and his goal of total control.
Matt Wagner comments, “For years, readers have begged me to return to the character of Christine Spar but, due to the tightly choreographed nature of Devil’s Legacy, her initial storyline, there just wasn’t any room to fit in any more adventures. But I finally hit on the perfect way to cast Christine… now known as X-tine… back into the role of Grendel, and I’m happy to say that she’s just as fierce and fiery as she ever was. Maybe even more so! You won’t believe what fate has in store for her this time around.”
Created in 1982, Grendel revolves the various assassins who’ve held the titular, Beowulf-inspired mantle. Christine was the granddaughter of the original Grendel, Hunter Rose, and the narrator of his comics series, before becoming Grendel herself. Grendel Prime, a cyborg living in the far future, was introduced in 1992, and last starred in 2024’s Devil’s Crucible – Defiance.
Issue #1 of Sedition will be released on July 25, with variant covers by Brennan Wagner, Steve Musgrave, Mark Laszlo, and John K. Snyder. You can check out Brennan’s artwork below:
