Next winter, Papercutz will take readers into a fantastical, magical world, and The Beat has an exclusive first look. Debuting in February, Tamia and the Memories of the Dragon, Vol. 1 written by David Braña and illustrated by Pahito kicks off a new series about a human girl and her surprising new friend, Sosoot.

Here’s the full synopsis:

Little Tamia and her father must overcome a difficult time in their lives. To do so, they decide to spend their summer vacation in Damar, a beautiful town with delicious pastries, mysterious shopkeepers and no technology. On their first night, Tamia is awakened by a weird noise. A dragon, Sosoot, has broken in, seeking… something? But is Sosoot a dream? Or is he a new friend?

Adventure awaits as Tamia and Sosoot seek something lost and learn about the world–and themselves–in the process.

“The idea for Tamia and the Memories of the Dragon came about because I wanted to write a story with a dragon as the protagonist,” said writer David Braña. “But I wanted it to be a different kind of dragon than what stories usually portray, a friendly dragon, with its fears, its limitations, its personal challenges, its concerns… But it needed a complement a human companion, and that’s how Tamia was ‘born.’

“Two children so different and yet so alike. Her way of seeing life, as a human, combined with the fantasy surrounding the dragon Sosoot, resulted in this comic,” Braña continued. “It reflects friendship, the process of maturing, the acceptance of loss, and so many other sensations and feelings that I have experienced in my personal life. Wrapped in a fantasy that immerses us in a wonderful world, full of unique beings to discover and adventures to experience.”

Tamia and the Memories of the Dragon, Vol. 1 will be available everywhere books are sold on February 3, 2026.
