Marvel Studios founding chairman David Maisel’s Ekos will launch its second volume with Aspen Comics on Kickstarter later this month. Today, The Beat can exclusively reveal two variant covers for the comic, which will continue the story of protagonist Grell.
Produced by Maisel and Aspen Comics, Ekos Vol. 2 is written by J.T. Krul, penciled by Alex Konat, digitally inked by Mark Roslan, colored by Peter Steigerwald, and lettered by Josh Reed. The universe is inspired by Mark Turner and Geoff Johns and stars Grell, a character they created in 2003. The first volume raised $238,102 on Kickstarter.
Here’s the full synopsis for Ekos Vol. 2:
Ekos Volume 2 continues the story of a new superstar in Grell, who in Volume 1 embarked on a journey to discover the world of Ekos. Grell encountered many of the beloved characters from Michael Turner’s legacy, including superstars Aspen (Fathom) and Grace (Soulfire), and joined forces with them on a shared mission. Remarkably, Ekos is the first time these characters have all come together in the same universe, and now Volume 2 continues their journey as they deal with turmoil within their realms and climatic interactions with the humans!
Ahead of the campaign launch, The Beat can reveal variant covers by artists Kendrick Lim and Siya Oum, seen below.

Fans who want updates on Ekos Vol. 2 can sign up for the campaign’s pre-launch page, which will also notify them the moment the Kickstarter goes live.
Ekos Vol. 1 is available now through the Aspen Comics online store.
