The Fables of Erlking Woods is cartoonist Juni Ba’s new graphic novel — lettered by Aditya Bidikar and published by Goats Flying Press — and it’s coming to Kickstarter soon.
Last month, we had the pleasure of announcing this book (along with the rest of The Goat’s very-exciting 2025 slate), and today we are excited to now share an entire chapter of the new fantasy graphic novel with you. That’s right an entire chapter.
If you missed the announcement, The Fables of Erlking Woods’ description reads: Goats Flying Press is proud to present a new original graphic novel by award-winning Artist Juni Ba (Robin:Boy Wonder, Djeliya) and Letterer Aditya Bidikar (Little Bird), blending history, myth, and folklore in a grand storytelling tradition spanning the centuries-long life of one accursed fiend, the vast woods he haunts, and the countless lives and fates intertwined with his: He of cloven hoof and oak-gnarled antler. The granter of wishes, the stealer of souls: The Erlking.
Spanning 184 pages, the book is currently in pre-launch on Kickstarter, meaning you can head to this page, click NOTIFY ME ON LAUNCH, and get an email when the campaign goes live. I got an early look at the first 75 pages of the book, and I’m definitely backing this campaign. Ba is one of the most exciting new cartoonists to emerge in recent years, breaking out with the power-house Djeliya, before going on to create one of the best DC Comics Black Label prestige series in recent memory with Robin: Boy Wonder.
This new book is a century-spanning tale that feels almost like a novel in short stories. It’s immersive and kinetic and excellent. Check out the 10-page preview below, which features knights and the Erlking and the slow passing of time!
