Kristen Gudsnuk’s new limited series, Touched by a Demon, hits shelves in January—but today, The Beat is sharing a sneak peek at a scene that’s perfect for the holiday season. Sort of.
Written and illustrated by Gudsnuk, Touched by a Demon is a four-issue horror comedy series about a low-level demon named Bifrons who misses Heaven and wants to earn redemption so he can return there. Here’s the series synopsis via publisher Dark Horse:
Dissatisfied with tormenting souls in Hell and longing for the halcyon days when he lived in Heaven, a low-level demon named Bifrons attempts to earn redemption by opening a life coach agency in the mortal realm. With the aid of his assistant Zuzu and a damned soul by the name of Elaine, Bifrons is determined to help humans save their souls in the hopes that maybe with enough good deeds, God in his heavenly mercy will give him a second chance…but can an entity of evil really change its nature?

“I wrote Touched by a Demon because I’ve always been fascinated by the way we often fail at being the people we want to be: the tension between the intractability of human nature and the desire to be better than we are now,” said Gudsnuk.
“Frons is a low-level demon, a fallen angel who thought he’d have gotten further by now and is starting to regret his life choices. His trusty assistant, Zuzu, supports Frons’s dreams of returning to heaven, even if she’s not as invested in actually helping humans. Their clients are fellow lost souls battling their own inner demons.
“This comic was inspired by various things, like my own ill-fated forays into different self-help books and behavior change apps, and a baffling TV movie called 12 Christmas Wishes for My Dog. I’m super excited to be making a comic for adults again!” she concluded.
