Fantagraphics has published the latest volume in its Lost Marvels series, collecting all eight issues of the out-of-print Savage Tales run from the 1980s. Today, The Beat can reveal an exclusive preview of the book, which hit shelves yesterday.
Edited by Larry Hama, this magazine-sized anthology series originally ran from 1985 to 1986 and featured a slew of artists and writers, with stories ranging from apocalyptic futures to gangster noir.
Artists in the series include John Severin; John Buscema; Mary Wilshire; Ken Steacy; Sam Glanzman; Val Mayerik; Ron Wagner; Herb Trimpe; Gray Morrow; Michael Golden; Wayne Vansant; Joe Jusko; Arthur Suydam; Vincent Waller; and Will Jungkuntz. Writers include Chuck Dixon; Bill Wray; Doug Murray; Robert Kanigher; Don Kraar; Denny O’Neil; and Archie Goodwin.
As part of the ongoing Lost Marvels series, Fantagraphics and Marvel have reprinted the entire run, bringing it back for the first time since ’86.
