Nostalgia-fueled sci-fi is making a comeback on Kickstarter! CYBERPINK, the latest comic series from creator and writer PA Lopez, is a fusion of Saturday morning cartoon fun, bold inclusivity, and the transformative power of music. Illustrated by the talented Samuel Bermudez (Cosmic Isles Comic, Codename: Valhalla).

Set in the 23rd century, CYBERPINK explores a world where tensions between humans and robots have reached a breaking point. When a mysterious green vortex engulfs a girl, it sparks rising prejudice, forcing an all-girl band to take a stand. The Cyberpink girls, a fierce and determined musical group, find themselves at the heart of the conflict after being expelled from an audition for defending robot performers. Their only hope lies in the hands of Nicky Rat, a promoter with unpredictable motives.

As the band members navigate their own struggles—Stacy grappling with a forbidden romance with a robot, Eva confronting her identity as the adopted daughter of one, and Infiniti deciphering a cryptic warning linked to a distant star—a violent riot erupts during one of their performances. Now, they must escape and find a way to heal a fractured society before disaster strikes.

As for Lopez, CYBERPINK is more than just a sci-fi adventure; it’s a deeply personal project shaped by his own experiences in the music industry.

I started singing in bands at 17 and later pursued music in LA, so the industry’s highs, lows, and eccentric characters are close to my heart. I wanted to create a sci-fi universe that is both fun and meaningful—one that appeals to everyone. CYBERPINK is inspired by the Saturday morning cartoons I grew up with. Those shows might seem simple by today’s standards, but they had heart. You felt like you could be friends with the characters.

This culminates into Lopez’s ultimate goal which is to create a world reminiscent of Star Wars or Harry Potter—a place that, despite its conflicts, leaves audiences with a sense of hope.

Samuel Bermudez, the comic’s illustrator, brings their own unique artistic blend to the project, influenced by both Japanese and Western styles.

My art is inspired by legends like Katsuhiro Ōōtomo and Masamune Shirow, fueling my love for cyberpunk. At the same time, Marvel artists like Sara Pichelli, Stuart Immonen, and Olivier Coipel captivated me during my university years. Working with PA Lopez has opened my eyes to the worlds of fashion and music, enriching my storytelling approach. I want readers to see themselves reflected in the characters, their gestures, and interactions in every panel.

Now Lopez is bringing the second issue to kcikstarter! Lopez says:

Issue #2 really kicks the story into high gear, as the girls navigate an increasingly dangerous situation. Terrified of being exposed for the scandal back on Earth that sent them to the moon in the first place, they’re also discovering that there’s something decidedly wrong with this new music opportunity. This sequence captures exactly what I love about these characters — even as they’re in way over their heads, they’re still cracking jokes. As always, artist Samuel Bermudez really captures the essence of the different characters, making the jokes even funnier. He also really brought the James Bond vIllain’s-lair atmosphere of the record label’s secret facility to life.

Fans of sci-fi, music, and heartfelt storytelling won’t want to miss CYBERPINK! With its dynamic blend of adventure, humor, and social commentary, this comic series promises to be a standout event of the year. The second issue is set to release tomorrow ahead of its release check out this preview of the comic!
