Rebellion and Liberty Films have revealed a first look at the upcoming Rogue Trooper film from director Duncan Jones, giving readers a hint at what’s coming in the much-anticipated adaptation of the classic 2000 AD comic.

Jones is the filmmaker behind the science fiction films Moon, Source Code, and Warcraft, and also the co-writer of the graphic novel Madi with Alex De Campi. Back in January 2024, it was revealed Jones finished principal photography on the project, based on the British comic strip by Gerry Finley-Day and Dave Gibbons. The cast includes Matthew Berry, Hayley AtwellJermaine Clement, and Sean Bean, with Aneurin Barnard playing the titular character. The film is being made with Unreal Engine 5 and has a unique animated style.

An animated science fiction feature from Rebellion and Liberty Films, Rogue Trooper tells the story of 19, a ‘Genetic Infantryman’, who finds himself the sole-survivor of an invasion force. Desperate to track down the traitor who sold him and his comrades out, the super soldier is accompanied by three killed-in-action squad mates, whose personalities have been stored in his gun, helmet and backpack.

Jones will appear at San Diego Comic Con promoting the film on July 25th at booth 2121, where he will have a limited signing. Rogue Trooper arrives in theaters later this year.
