Welcome back to The Beat Digest, a twice-weekly round-up of the biggest comics-related news stories we’ve missed every Tuesday and Friday. Is there a story out there you think we should cover? Be sure to let us know in the comments.
§ Mad Cave Studios announced The Phantom #1 will be released on September 24. The new series starring Lee Falk‘s legendary jungle hero is being written by Ray Fawkes, with art by Russell Mark Olson, and will see the Phantom/Kit Walker try to restore peace to the African nation of Bangalla after a gang of violent smugglers intrudes upon it. Fawkes and Olson previously worked together on this year’s Free Comic Book Day Phantom issue. The publisher also revealed It Killed Everyone But Me, a legacy sequel-esque take on the slasher genre, by Ryan Parrott and Letizia Cadonici, debuting September 10.
§ As well as Captain Henry and the Graveyard of Time, Dark Horse revealed another Mike Mignola project, Uri Tupka and the Gods: Another Story from Lands Unknown. Set in the same world as this year’s Bowling with Corpses (instead of the Hellboy Universe), the OGN follows the adventures of heretical theologian Uri Tupka, as he encounters all manner of foes while seeking to “prove that ancient powerful gods shaped the world.” It will be released in February 2026, and be followed by a second book starring Uri Tupka.
Additionally, Dark Horse announced Minor Threats: The Last Devil Left Alive, the third main entry in the saga of Frankie Follis/Playtime by Patton Oswalt, Jordan Blum, and Scott Hepburn; and Red Book, a follow-up to James Tynion IV and Michael Avon Oeming‘s Blue Book, exploring UFO stories from Communist states. Last Devil Left Alive #1 (of 5) releases October 1, and Red Book #1 (of 4), which will also feature a back-up by Malachi Ward and Aditya Bidikar, will be released on October 8. In the meantime, the Blue Book Library Edition will be released on July 8.
§ Han Solo and Boba Fett will headline two new Star Wars miniseries from Marvel. Han Solo – Hunt for the Falcon, written by Rodney Barnes with art by Ramon Rosanas, will follow Han and Chewbacca’s search for the stolen Millennium Falcon in the run-up to The Force Awakens (which, amazingly, turns 10 this year.) Boba Fett – Black, White & Red, meanwhile, is a comic in the vein of Marvel’s other monochrome anthologies, with the first issue featuring a story by Benjamin Percy and Chris Allen. Han Solo #1 (of 5) goes hunting on September 3, and Boba Fett #1 (of 4) will follow on September 17.
§ Via IGN, Titan announced Conan: Scourge of the Serpent, a four-issue event by writer Jim Zub and artist Ivan Gil (Berezina). The comic, which was set up by this year’s similarly titled Free Comic Book Day issue, will see Conan the Barbarian face off against the evil, snake-like god Set, whose “grand plan for humanity” has now been set in motion. It marks Titan’s second Conan event story, after last year’s Battle of the Black Stone. Issue #1 will be released on September 24.
§ In other Robert E. Howard-related news, BOOM! Studios will publish The Last Day of H.P. Lovecraft, a miniseries by writer Romuald Giulivo and artist Jakub Rebelka (Judas) offering a surreal portrayal of the infamous author’s death. Issue #1 of the comic, which was originally published in France in 2023, will be released on September 17, 2025. Lovecraft died of cancer on March 15, 1937, aged just 46.
§ Image announced No Man’s Land, a four-part Cold War thriller by Szymon Kudrański. Set in 1963, the book sees an FBI and KGB agent team up to investigate a dead body that appears in the Bering Strait bordering the USA and USSR. It marks Kundrański’s third solo project at Image, following Something Epic and Blood Commandment. Issue #1 will be released on September 17.
§ Netflix released the second trailer for The Sandman season two. The final season will be released in two volumes on Thursday, July 3, and July 24, with a bonus episode, “Death: The High Cost of Living,” arriving on July 31.
§ Finally, here’s an MCU round-up: Thunderbolts* will be released on Blu-ray and 4K on July 29, complete with The New Avengers as a subtitle on the cover(s); Disney+ confirmed the second half of Ironheart will be released simultaneously on Tuesday night, July 1, a week after the first three episodes; and (per Variety), Marvel Studios has scheduled an unnamed movie for December 15, 2028. The company also has undisclosed films penciled in for February 18, May 5, and November 10 of that year, and will release Avengers: Secret Wars beforehand on December 17, 2027.
