Flesk Publication and Daniel Warren Johnson have launched a crowdfunding campaign for The Art of Daniel Warren Johnson, an art book compiling illustrations, pages, and covers from the entire DWJ oeuvre: Space-Mullet, The Ghost Fleet, Extremity, Murder Falcon, Do A Powerbomb!, Transformers and The Moon Is Following Us, along with Wonder Woman: Dead Earth, and Beta Ray Bill.
The campaign is only a few days in and has already raised nearly $140,000 at the time of this writing.
Flesk offers both a paperback and a hardcover version for sale, featuring the book with “over 220 sketches from DWJ’s sketchbooks.” Fans can also find travel sketches, previous commissions, detailed commentary on the art and layout of panels, as well as conversations with contributors like Riley Rossmo.
From the Kickstarter:
This art book is offered as a paperback and as a signed deluxe hardcover edition. We also have two premium, signed 13 x 19″ prints available. Every book pledge comes with a Kickstarter-exclusive 8.5 x 11″ signed print (one per backer).
“One of my favorite things about this book is the freedom that I had to truly pick my favorite pieces of art that I’ve ever done across my entire career. So my favorite pages, the ones that I was the most excited to draw, or the ones that were the most challenging, that I feel I had success with, and was able to climb that mountain in a way that felt like a victory. And through the commentary, I’m actually able to highlight those victories and highlight the struggles that I was having as I was making these pieces,” said Johnson in the Kickstarter video.
“All images in the book are raw scans, so markups and everything and all are in every image. The cover is cleaned up but there’s a page of the cover totally raw on the inside of the book” commented DWJ on the Instagram announcement.
While DWJ has worldwide fans, for the moment, Flesk is only offering US shipping for the Kickstarter. But there is hope! “International orders to Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, and countries in the European Union will be available on our Flesk Publications website once the books have arrived at our warehouse and are ready to ship to our Kickstarter backers.”
