Crossed Hearts, a U.S.-based manga, webtoon, and webnovel publisher, has announced a new imprint, GLAM BEAT! The imprint is dedicated to Girls’ Love (yuri) works, promising to bring a diverse range of stories and formats to English-speaking readers.
In the press release, Crossed Hearts goes into detail as to what compelled its team to create the first imprint exclusively dedicated to Girls’ Love in English:
Yuri has long been one of the most expressive, emotionally rich and versatile genres in comics and prose, yet it has often been treated as a subcategory rather than a genre worthy of its own infrastructure. English releases have historically been scattered, limited in scope, or absorbed into broader romance lines, making it difficult for readers to consistently discover new titles or explore the full breadth of girls’ love storytelling.
GLAM BEAT!, instead of singling out one or two types of subgenres or narratives, pledges to curate a diverse library to appeal to many types of readers and hopes to reflect the true range of the genre that, according to Crossed Hearts, is missing in the English language.
Future GLAM BEAT! titles will be available both in print and digital. Previous Crossed Hearts licenses were made available internationally, hoping to reach fans from around the world. Its Girls’ Love imprint will benefit from this global distribution network. On publishing its titles in print, Crossed Hearts states:
Print remains a key component of the imprint’s mission. Recognizing the importance of physical collections to many yuri fans, GLAM BEAT! is committed to bringing select titles to print in formats that respect the original works and appeal to collectors.
The imprint announcement is still fresh and there are yet to be any titles teased or announced. However, GLAM BEAT! reassures readers that it is a “long-term commitment” rather than an experiment and will be here to stay. And one key component of this new endeavor is readers. GLAM BEAT! states that it will closely monitor the recommendations that come from the readers and earnestly consider them.
