Bad Idea is at it again. With the retailer show ComicsPRO coming up this week, they’ve announced a new “Secret Six” comics that will only be available to 99 retailers attending the ComicsPRO meeting.

The thing is, this comic sounds very interesting: WHEN I WAS FIVE by Mark Waid and David Lapham. With two A-listers aboard, I know I want to sneak into the room where it happens – although content warning: this cover is very sad and disturbing. Maybe I don’t want to know what happens.

But what exactly is happening? I’ll let Bad Idea explain as only they can:

“Congratulations. You’ve found one of the extremely rare BAD IDEA Secret Six comics.

Each of the six is released differently. Some hidden in plain sight, others demand decoding. This one exists only for those in the room.”

Previous Secret Six comics were released inside Diamond catalogs, as a single copy per store release, disguised as a Marvel giveaway at a comics conference; and now given away to ComicsPRO attendees:

Now comes the next BAD IDEA Secret Six comic: WHEN I WAS FIVE, by Mark Waid and David Lapham

David Lapham is a comic book legend, beloved by readers and revered even more by his fellow creators. They adore him. Many would kill for the chance to work with him. We’ve been quietly making that happen.

WHEN I WAS FIVE is the first chapter in a new series pairing David with some of the biggest creators on the planet. Internally, we call it DAVID LAPHAM X, and we cannot wait for you to discover what, and more importantly who, comes next.

HOW DO YOU GET ONE?

Like the other Secret Six books, this one is being released in an unconventional way.

BAD IDEA is hosting BAD IDEA: MEGALITH & Beyond meetings in Room 1709 Executive Level of the Hilton Los Angeles Glendale during ComicsPRO, next week, February 19-21.

WHEN I WAS FIVE will only be available to the 99 comic shops attending ComicsPRO this year.

Retailers can earn a copy by attending one of our BAD IDEA: MEGALITH & Beyond presentations during the conference.

That’s it. No orders. No allocations. No second printing. It will not be available anywhere else.

If your shop is attending ComicsPRO, forward this email to them so they can sign up for a MEGALITH & Beyond session and earn you a copy.

We’ll be sharing our massive plans for 2026 from HABITAT to PROJECT: GOAT and MEGALITH. We’ll also be hosting signings with superstar creators, and giving away copies of our 2026 preview comic!

Come get the scoop on our 2026 slate, chat with BAD IDEA creators, and walk away with free swag. All meeting attendees will receive one (1) copy of the limited edition WHEN I WAS FIVE. Refreshments, snacks and a bar will be available.

Perhaps if I put on a false beard and mustache and start complaining about FOC, I can sneak into the room?

Anyway, Bad Idea put out a subsequent release NAMING the stores that will have access to this release, and urging customer to urge their stores to sign up for the refreshments, information and swag. Urgent, as Foreigner told us long ago.

  1. Hunh, I wonder why I’ve never read a comic put out by Bad Idea.
I’m not sure how they make their money but I guess it’s working for them.
