Drawn & Quarterly has released their Spring 2026 catalog, headlined by Tillie Walden‘s next graphic novel, Charity & Silvia. Due out May 26, the book tells the true story of Charity Bryant and Sylvia Drake, a married lesbian couple who lived in early 19th century Vermont.

Being openly gay in 19th century New England is not an easy row to hoe. But Charity can only be herself, and she immediately catches—and holds—the eye of none other than Sylvia Drake. From this point on, for 44 years, the two would be inseparable, building a life together despite all odds and living as a lesbian couple in small town Vermont.

The book marks Walden’s first at Drawn & Quarterly, and her first personal graphic novel since 2019’s Are You Listening?, having spent the interim working on books like Skybound‘s Clementine trilogy, or Tegan and Sara‘s Junior High and Crush. She began working on the book in 2024, after being pitched the premise by Vermont Humanities, who provided her with a residency — funded by a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities — to produce it.
