Blumhouse Productions will adapt Something is Killing the Children into a feature film and adult animated series.

Blumhouse will develop both a live-action feature film and an adult animated series. Tynion will adapt and executive produce the animated series, with Dell’Edera as co-executive producer and visual development consultant.
BOOM! Studios’ Stephen Christy, along with Tynion, will produce the feature film, with Adam Yoelin and Mette Norkjaer serving as Executive Producers.

First published by BOOM! in 2019, the comic has sold over 5 million copies worldwide and earned critical acclaim. James Tynion IV, the series creator, won the Eisner Award for Best Writer for three consecutive years (2021–2023).

“Something is Killing the Children is the comic book that changed my life and career forever,” said Tynion. “Finding a partner who understood the potential of Erica Slaughter and world Werther Dell’Edera and I have built was crucial, and we have found that partner in Jason Blum. Nobody understands horror better than Blumhouse, and I can’t wait for the world to see what we all have planned together.”
Written by Tynion and illustrated by Dell’Edera, SiKtC takes place in a world where only children can see monsters. Erica Slaughter, a monster hunter from a secretive organization, defies orders to protect a young boy after a tragic event in Wisconsin.

“When the children of Archer’s Peak begin to go missing, everything seems hopeless. Most children never return, but the ones that do have terrible stories—impossible stories of terrifying creatures that live in the shadows. Their only hope of finding and eliminating the threat is the arrival of a mysterious stranger, one who believes the children and claims to see what they can see. Her name is Erica Slaughter. She kills monsters.”
“It’s easy to see why audiences and critics alike have praised Something is Killing the Children,” said Jason Blum, Blumhouse CEO and Founder. “James and Werther’s comic book series taps into our most primal fears, luring us into a fascinating world and introducing Erica Slaughter, the ass-kicking hero we all wish we had to fight the monsters that lurk in the dark.”
The House of Slaughter spinoff explores the organization and sold over 500,000 copies in its first issue, making it a top-selling original comic debut this century.

Developing Something Is Killing the Children with Blumhouse is a milestone for BOOM! Studios,” said Christy. “In this deal, Jason Blum has shown a real commitment to putting James and Werther’s vision first, which means everything to us. We’ve been on this journey with them since the very first issue, and to now partner with Blumhouse to bring their world to film and television feels like the culmination of years of belief in this story.”
According to The Beat, BOOM! Studios plans a 100-issue run, with a new event series, Fall of the House of Slaughter, announced for 2025, leading to the 50th issue in 2026 and a Swamp Thing crossover.
