Marvel Comics has announced a new, five-issue Bishop series, written by Saladin Ahmed, with art by Mario Santoro (Storm). Due out this summer, the book will reunite the temporally displaced mutant with his late sister, Shard Bishop, to battle a group of time-traveling villains known as the Final Brotherhood, who seek to prevent him from ever joining the X-Men in the first place.

THE TIME-LOST X-MAN IS BACK! Bishop has always lived by a strict code. But that code will get called into question when his sister, Shard, is sent to the present right before she died! Will Bishop adhere to his principles and protect the timestream? Or will he risk it all to save the most important person in his life?

Ahmed states, “I’m having a blast doing a deep dive into the dark corners of Lucas Bishop’s time-travel traumatized mind! I’m a writer who loves both family drama and spectacle, so getting to juxtapose the big visual comic book elements of temporal warping and explosive powers with the quiet pain and joy of sibling relationships is my happy place.” He adds, “Mario Santoro’s pages for this are a thrill, including some INSANE designs for our new ‘hybrid’ mutant villains, the Final Brotherhood!”

Santoro says, “When I drew issues of Storm, I also had the pleasure of drawing Bishop, and I really enjoyed doing it. I never imagined that I would get a chance to draw an incredible solo adventure for the character. I have always loved the X-Men, and I’m thrilled every time I get to work with one of them. I’m also excited to work with a fantastic team led by [editor] Darren Shan and alongside Saladin Ahmed, who wrote an incredible story for Lucas.”

Created by John Byrne and While Portacio in 1991, Bishop is a member of Xavier’s Security Enforcers from a dystopian future, with the power to absorb and redirect energy. He has previously headlined several solo series, or ones co-starring other characters, from 1994, 1996, 1998, 1999, 2001, 2009, and 2023, including the 16-issue run Bishop: The Last X-Man, which is where Shard died in 2000.

Issue #1 will be released on June 10, with a main cover by Davide Paratore, and variants by Fabrizio De Tommaso and Skottie Young, which you can check out below. Bishop’s 35th anniversary will also be marked by an appearance in Civil War: Unmasked #1, due out May 6, as well as his return to Disney+ on season two of X-Men ’97, premiering sometime later this summer.
