Christina Hodson, who wrote Bumblebee and Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Emancipation of one Harley Quinn, has been tapped to write Batman: The Brave and the Bold for filmmaker Andy Muschietti.

The Brave and the Bold will introduce the Caped Crusader to the new DC Universe, giving fans their first look at the Batman who will share the screen with David Corenswet‘s Superman.

Multiple sources named Hodson as writer of The Brave and the Bold in a new article from The Hollywood Reporter, which indicated she had been working on the screenplay for a few months. The movie was first announced in 2023, and has been in limbo since. Muschietti will remain on board, although THR suggests he may not direct, depending on his schedule.

Muschietti was one of the most in-demand filmmakers in Hollywood after the massive success of the two It movies, but cooled significantly following the failure of The Flash. Fast forward a few years, and he is once again riding high on the success of Welcome to Derry, HBO Max’s It tie-in series.

DC studio heads James Gunn and Peter Safran have been constantly quizzed about the project, with “who’s gonna play Batman?” consistently one of the most-asked questions the duo get.

Batman: The Brave and the Bold will center on the relationship between Batman and his son, Damian Wayne. In the comics, Damian is the fourth Robin and the son of Talia Head, the daughter of Ra’s al Ghul. There’s no word yet as to what Robins will have existed prior to The Brave and the Bold.

Timing on The Brave and the Bold is up in the air, in part due to the upcoming release of Matt Reeves‘ The Batman Part II. While the Robert Pattinson vehicle will not take place in the DC Universe, it follows on the heels of the successful The Batman and the award-winning The Penguin, so DC remains plenty motivated to give it the space it deserves. The THR story reinforces the idea that they plan to put together a version of The Brave and the Bold that is tonally and visually distinct from Reeves’s projects, in the hopes of avoiding any confusion on the part of the audience.
