X-MEN: TAS revival highlights Disney+ Day Marvel reveals

Disney+ Day is in full swing and there’s already been plenty of exciting announcements thus far. While not the dog and pony show spectacle like last year’s Disney Investor’s Day, fans were treated to exciting announcements of upcoming Disney+ series. For Marvel fans, though, the biggest news may be that the seminal ’90s cartoon X-Men: The Animated Series (or X-Men: TAS for short) will be getting a revival.

Courtesy of an exclusive from The Wrap, the revival will be called X-Men ’97 and pick up from the X-Men: TAS finale. Furthermore many of the original voice actors will be reprising their roles including Cal Dodd (Wolverine), Lenore Zann (Rogue), Adrian Hough (Nightcrawler) George Buza (Beast), Christopher Britton (Mister Sinister), Catherine Disher (Jean Grey), Chris Potter (Gambit), Alison Sealy-Smith (Storm), and Alyson Court (Jubilee).

X-Men ’97 will also feature some new voice actors along with the original Canadian cast, including Jennifer Hale, Anniwaa Buachie, Ray Chase, Matthew Waterson, JP Karliak, Holly Chou, Jeff Bennett, AJ LoCascio. Hale is no stranger to the X-Men franchise, having voiced Jean Grey in various media.

Head writer and executive producer on the series is Beau DeMayo. Supervising director is Jake Castorena and supervising producer is Charley Feldman.

Original X-Men: TAS writers Eric and Julia Lewald and director Larry Houston will be consulting on the series.

Beyond X-Men ’97, the Disney+ Day festivities offered a number of first looks and logo reveals for other upcoming Marvel shows on the streamer.

Moon Knight is a new globetrotting action-adventure series featuring a complex vigilante who suffers from dissociative identity disorder. The multiple identities who live inside him find themselves thrust into a deadly war of the gods against the backdrop of modern and ancient Egypt. Moon Knight is directed by Mohamed Diab and is coming to Disney+ in 2022.

We got a look at Oscar Isaac as the titular hero.

She-Hulk follows Jennifer Walters, a lawyer who specializes in superhuman-oriented legal cases. Starring Tatiana Maslany, She-Hulk will welcome a host of Marvel characters to the series, including the Hulk, played by Mark Ruffalo, and the Abomination, played by Tim Roth. The new comedy series coming to Disney+ in 2022 is written by Executive Producer Jessica Gao and directed by Executive Producer Kat Coiro and Anu Valia.

We didn’t get a full image of Shulkie post-transformation but did get quick glimpse teases.

Ms. Marvel introduces viewers to Kamala Khan, a 16-year old Pakistani American from Jersey City.  An aspiring artist, an avid gamer, and a voracious fan-fiction scribe, she is a huge fan of the Avengers — and one in particular, Captain Marvel. But Kamala has always struggled to find her place in the world — that is, until she gets super powers like the heroes she’s always looked up to. Iman Vellani stars as Kamala Khan aka Ms. Marvel. Episodes are directed by Executive Producers Adil El Arbi & Bilall Fallah, Meera Menon, and Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy.

Echo, starring Alaqua Cox as Maya Lopez, who will be introduced in Hawkeye which premieres next week.

Ironheart, a series starring Dominique Thorne as Riri Williams, a genius inventor who creates the most advanced suit of armor since Iron Man

Agatha: House of Harkness, a previously announced series starring Kathryn Hahn as her character from WandaVision. Jac Schaefer returns as head writer.

Secret Invasion, the new series wherein Samuel L. Jackson reprises his role as Nick Fury and re-teams with Captain Marvel‘s Ben Mendelsohn aka the Skrull Talos. At the center of the series is a faction of shape-shifting Skrulls who have been infiltrating Earth for years.

The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special written by the franchise pic’s architect James Gunn.

What If…? (Season 2): After enlisting the Guardians of the Multiverse to stop Infinity Ultron, The Watcher returns in Season 2 of What If…? to meet new heroes and explore more strange new worlds. Directed by Bryan Andrews with AC Bradley serving as head writer.

Spider-Man: Freshman Year: a new animated series that follows Peter Parker on his way to becoming Spider-Man, harkening back to the character’s comic book roots. Jeff Trammell serves as head writer.

I Am Groot: a series of original shorts exploring Baby Groot’s glory days growing up, and getting into trouble, among the stars. Directed by Kirsten Lepore.

Marvel Zombies: a new animated series that re-imagines the Marvel universe as a new generation of heroes battle against an ever-spreading zombie scourge. Directed by Bryan Andrews.

Presumably, this will continue the story from the What If… episode that introduced Marvel Zombies.
