Whoa! Madefire to start carrying complete digital DC Comics library

In what they’re calling “possibly the single biggest announcement in [Madefire] history,” the ioS app will being carrying both back catalog and current DC books. That includes the DC Metal storyline and other comics you can buy at the shop today.

The move is something of a surprise as Madefire had been pretty dormant after launching their own “motion book” and “digital view” platforms over the years. The move gives them a library of over 80,000 titles by next year, including titles from IDW including  March and Dirk Gently., and books from Boom, Valiant and more. (Not Image, Dark Horse or Marvel of course.)

The PR is below, but This is the first major crack to ComiXology’s dominance of digital comics I can remember for a while. Madefire has had strong support from Apple over the years so this could be seen as part of the Amazon/Apple battle as well as perhaps on a bigger meta level, WB not wanting all of its business at Amazon? We’ve seen a vast outbreak of giant media wars oevr the last week with comics at the core, so don’t necessarily pooh pooh that.

At any rate, the Madefire platform is an attractive one. I haven’t had a look at it in a while, but seems like a good time.

Madefire, the award-winning standard in digital comics and innovator of the unique Motion Book format, announced an extensive line-up of new and back list DC titles will be available on the Madefire App, starting today.

Thousands of titles featuring the world’s greatest Super Heroes from DC’s beloved back catalogue will soon be available on the Madefire App, along with DC’s highly-anticipated new releases starting with today’s DARK NIGHTS: METAL #1. With these expansive additions, the Madefire platform is a one-stop destination for DC fans everywhere!

Comprising the single biggest update of new content since the platform launched, Madefire will host more than 80,000 comics and Motion Books by 2018. Whether catching up with forgotten classics or simply discovering new Super Heroes and Super-Villains, the DC catalogue has something for everyone with amazing adventures only a click away.

“As a leader and innovator in the digital comics space Madefire has been a great partner to DC and I’m pleased this expansion will bring our extensive line-up to an even broader audience,” stated DC Entertainment Publisher Jim Lee. “Now, for the first time, exciting DC titles like DARK NIGHTS: METAL will be available to Windows, Apple TV, and Android TV digital readers – all via the Madefire App.”

  1. Wow! Really curious about how far back and how complete the library will be. I’d love to have access to all of DC’s Golden Age comics!
