The film will also reunite Diesel with “Fast and the Furious” mega-producer Neal Moritz, who is producing alongside Valiant’s Dinesh Shamdasani.
Dave Wilson, who is “Deadpool” director Tim Miller’s partner at Blur Studios, is attached to direct. Oscar-nominated screenwriter Eric Heisserer (“Arrival”) is writing the screenplay.
According to insiders, Sony and Wilson plan to follow in the footsteps of the recent success of “Logan” and “Deadpool” with an R-rated take on the comic adaptation that will be tonally and aesthetically influenced by high-concept, sci-fi blockbusters of the late ’80s including “Robocop,” “Terminator,” and “Total Recall.”
Diesel is actually pretty perfect casting for Bloodshot, as he looks stunning in cargo pants with large gun accessories, the essential look for Bloodshot as shown in these concept drawings by the great David Aja:
Bloodshot is Valiant’s most recognizable (and best designed) character thanks to his dead white skin, red chest emblem and distinctive hairline.
The role definitely calls for a guy who likes to run around shirtless — just like that Bloodshot cosplayer who hangs around the Valiant booth (he’s reportedly a workout fiend.). Diesel is certainly a big buff dude but in recent years the 50-year-old star has been photographed with an all too human dad bod. Playing a baby tree is pretty easy stuff compartively. Is he ready to get jacked up again for the role? Recent instagrams are swathed in forgiving winter gear,
But another recentish shot shows gym worthy guns.
At any rate, I have no fear that with modern bodybuilding tech – which has allowed previously puffy male stars to get into superhero-style shape in a few months – and Diesel’s well documented work ethic we’ll get a Bloodshot who is suitably swoll. And the film moving on will definitely pump up Valiant’s media portfolio.
