The book will make its debut, of course, via ComiXology, where it will be free for members of Amazon Prime, Kindle Unlimited, and comiXology Unlimited. Individual release dates for issues are forthcoming, and a printed edition of the full series will eventually be available through Amazon. ComiXology shared details about the book Thursday via press release, billing it as a mafia-style fantasy story that features a prodigy and takes place in a magical city with an economy that trades in artistic inspiration.
“Set in a city where inspiration is the black market du jour, muses who call themselves the Moonfly Mafia have the power to inspire humans…and the wisdom to never give a good thing away for free,” Howard said in the release. “And when our hero Margot steps on their turf, she starts learning a few things, too. This is a book for magical girls-gone-bad.”
Adding Howard and Donovan to the ComiXology Originals creators list is another big get for the line, which relaunched this summer with a fancy announcement at SDCC. Howard in particular is a fast-rising talent in the industry, making a name with indie titles like the excellent meditation on death Euthanuats, while also starting to regularly work for Marvel with a well-received story in this month’s Captain America Annual and a coming role in the Marvel Knights 20th Anniversary mini-series.
Other talent involved in the ComiXology Originals line includes Sam Humphries (Green Lanterns, Harley Quinn), Magdalene Visaggio (Eternity Girl, Oh S#!T IT’S KIM & KIM), and Tim Seeley (Hack/Slash, Shatterstar, Grayson). The most recent addition to its roster of forthcoming titles prior to Fair Trade was Promethee 13:13, a prequel to a French comic that the publisher also announced this week.
The official press release follows:
ComiXology, Amazon’s premier digital comics service, reunites with Comix AF to announce the newest addition to the comiXology Originals lineup: Fair Trade. Debuting spring of 2019, Fair Trade is written by Tini Howard (Magdalena: Seventh Sacrament, Poseidon IX, The Secret Loves of Geek Girls, Oath Anthology) and illustrated by Eryk Donovan (MEMETIC, The House in the Wall, The Super Mario Bros. 2, In the Dark Anthology).
To celebrate this announcement, Eryk Donovan will be at New York Comic Con signing limited quantities of the exclusive Fair Trade poster at the comiXology Artist Alley table #1B5. He will also appear in two comiXology-hosted panels – The New Comics Publishing Frontier and The Voices of ComiXology Originals. For the full panel and signing schedule, check out comiXology on Twitter and Tumblr.
Writer Tini Howard says, “Set in a city where inspiration is the black market du jour, muses who call themselves the Moonfly Mafia have the power to inspire humans…and the wisdom to never give a good thing away for free. And when our hero Margot steps on their turf, she starts learning a few things, too. This is a book for magical girls-gone-bad.”
A series for magical girls-gone-bad!
From creators Tini Howard and Eryk Donovan, Fair Trade is a classic mafia-style story of a blooming prodigy with more skill than good sense, set in a city where inspiration is the trade and magic colors outside the lines.
