The day in Garth Ennis news: Preacher event tonight and Red Team added to his Humble Bundle

Garth Ennis is  having his moment with the debut of the AMC tv series based on Preacher coming on this Sunday, May 22 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on AMC. YOu can catch the man himself in converstion with producer Seth Rogen and the stars Dominic Cooper, Ruth Negga and Joseph Gilgun tonight at the 92nd Street Y here in NYC. You can also read The Beat’s own review by Kyle Pinion right here.

If you just want to enjoy some of Ennis’s very fine comics writing, his work for Dynamite – including The Boys and Battlefields – is currently available as an Essential Garth Ennis Humble Bundle, and and they just added The Red Team to what’s available.

Red Team is the story of a Major Crimes task force unit in the NYPD, four of New York’s finest and smartest. They’ve taken down one druglord after another with a careful blend of meticulous surveillance and applied violence, but the red tape on their latest case has brought their pursuit of justice to a grinding halt. Frustrated, they take extreme measures… and murder a suspect. As they’re about to discover, doing the wrong thing can be very, very seductive. A hardcore crime drama in the tradition of The Wire and The Shield, Red Team appeals to a legion of fans who appreciate the moral ambiguity and intense violence of such similar titles as Preacher, The Punisher, Hitman, and The Boys!

The addition of Red Team to the Essential Garth Ennis Humble Bundle is especially timely, as the Major Crimes task force returns to Manhattan’s mean streets in Red Team: Double Tap, Center Mass, an all-new comic book series launching this July.

I must admit, I never thought this day would come…but I am glad it has. Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon created a comic that tells a story unlike any other with some of the most memorable characters and plot twists of the last 20 years.
