Submissions are due by February 15th.

Over the years we’ve been thrilled to announce the nominees and winners for the Cartoonist Studio Prize, an award given to the best print and digital comics of the year by Vermont’s Center for Cartoon Studies.

In 2021, we are even more thrilled to announce that The Beat will be the media partner for this honor. We’re proud to partner with CCS, a school that has been turning out distinguished creators for year, and excited to be able to spotlight the powerful work being done in comics across multiple mediums.

The shortlists for the prize in two categories — print and digital — will be selected by CCS’s faculty and students, the Beat’s Avery Kaplan and guest judge Liniers.  Winners in both categories will receive $1000 and a Wacom One Creative Pen Display.

Support for this year’s prize includes The Denis Kitchen Art AgencyWacom, and Felix Comic Art.

Liniers is a renowned Argentine cartoonist and creator of the daily comic strip, Macanudo, which has been running for 16 years. His other books include Written and Drawn by Henrietta (2015), The Big Wet Balloon (2013), and the Eisner Award-winning, Good Night, Planet (2017).

And here’s how to submit for the prize:

The deadline for submissions is February 15th. All comics published in English between January 1, 2020 and December 31, 2020 are eligible. Submission forms can be found here for print comics, and here for webcomics.

Creators or publishers may submit a work for consideration by sending a physical copy of the book, along with a submission form, to:

The Center for Cartoon Studies
Cartoonist Studio Prize
PO Box 125
94 South Main Street (Fed Ex and UPS only)
White River Junction, Vermont 05001

No creator may submit more than one work in either category. The judging panel reserves the right to consider work that was not officially submitted. All submissions will be donated to the collection at the CCS Schulz Library.

We will be announcing the shortlist on March 15th, and the winners will be announced on April 15th.
