The Black Hole (Charles Burns Version) Has a Director Attached… And Brad Pitt, Too.

You remember Black Hole, the horror comic by Charles Burns that pulled in an Eisner, a Harvey, an Ignatz and a Essentials of Angoulême award when it was collected?  Which is to say, pretty much a clean sweep of critical acclaim.

Various people have been wanting to adapt this story of teens dealing with an STD that cause bizarre mutations for years.  David Fincher was chasing this comic for a while, but he’s not the one who ended up with it.

Variety reports that Rick Famuyiwa will be writing and directing the Black Hole film.  Famuyiwa is probably best known for directing Dope.

The film is being produced in partnership between New Regency and Plan B.  This is significant because that partnership has produced some prestige films like 12 Years a Slave and The Big Short.  And those of you who read the celebrity tabloids will remember that Brad Pitt is a partner in Plan B, so Pitt’s involved in the film from a distance.

With the collected edition coming out in 2005, it only took 13 years to get the wheels moving this far.
