We spoke with The Batman producer Dylan Clark. Clark is known for his producing work, having collaborated with director Matt Reeves previously for the Planet of the Apes trilogy. In The Batman we see a Year Two Bruce Wayne donning the cowl and crime-fighting on the streets of Gotham, but instead of curing Gotham of its crime problem, it’s only gotten worse. Now, Batman faces corruption, a dark past, and a serial killer is on the loose.

Clark discussed with us about the challenges he and Reeves faced in bringing this version of Gotham to life. He talked to us about the production process when it came to creating Gotham and also the choice behind the gothic and dark version of this Gotham. He also discussed his process of working with Reeves, and how Reeves settled on this version of the Riddler over the other versions. We also asked why this version of Batman has a Catwoman and what was the allure of their connection. Finally, there’s a magnificent batmobile chase in the film and we talked about the construction of an action scene and what is necessary for a good action scene.

Watch our entire interview with Dylan Clark below!

“More than a year of stalking the streets as the Batman (Robert Pattinson), striking fear into the hearts of criminals, has led Bruce Wayne deep into the shadows of Gotham City. With only a few trusted allies—Alfred (Andy Serkis), Lt. James Gordon (Jeffrey Wright)—amongst the city’s corrupt network of officials and high-profile figures, the lone vigilante has established himself as the sole embodiment of vengeance amongst his fellow citizens.

When a killer targets Gotham’s elite with a series of sadistic machinations, a trail of cryptic clues sends the World’s Greatest Detective on an investigation into the underworld, where he encounters such characters as Selina Kyle (Zoë Kravitz), Oz, aka The Penguin (Colin Farrell), Carmine Falcone (John Turturro), and Edward Nashton/aka The Riddler (Paul Dano). As the evidence begins to lead closer to home and the scale of the perpetrator’s plans becomes clear, Batman must forge new relationships, unmask the culprit, and bring justice to the abuse of power and corruption that has long plagued Gotham City.”

The Batman is in theaters everywhere March 4, 2022.
