HBO Max adds a Selena Gomez cooking show
Selena Gomez is coming to HBO Max with a 10-episode straight-to-series order on her new show, Untitled Cooking Project, produced by her own July Moon Productions. A different master chef will join Gomez in every episode, in which they’ll take on a variety of recipes, provide tips and tricks, and troubleshoot common cooking issues. Episodes will also feature a different food-related charity. As folks turn to cooking as a new hobby, HBO hopes the program will show viewers how to improve their skills during the quarantine. Untitled Cooking Project will air as part of HBO Max’s initial lineup when it launches on May 27. Gomez will act as EP along with Eli Holzman and Aaron Saidman.
Nat Geo moves its NASA period drama to Disney+
National Geographic’s upcoming period drama, The Right Stuff is officially moving over to become a Disney+ original series, with Patrick J. Adams and Jake McDorman starring. Premiering this fall, the show is an adaptation of Tom Wolfe’s bestselling nonfiction account of NASA’s early days at the height of the Cold War. D+ already has the Nat Geo fronted The World According to Jeff Goldblum, which was one of the platform’s few launch originals. In contrast to the lighthearted romp through education, The Right Stuff for tension and drama over its eight episodes. Leonardo DiCaprio’s Appian Way produces, per Deadline.
Erotic thriller Toxic is a go from Macro Television Studios
Jezebel filmmaker Numa Perrier has finalized a deal with Macro Television Studios to go forward on her erotic thriller series, Toxic. Perrier’s House of Numa banner produces, and she will act as EP, as well as write and direct the pilot episode of Toxic. The series will focus on a couple whose love of pillow talk and erotic thrills is interrupted by a string of red flags that develop into something alarmingly dangerous as their lives spiral out of control. Perrier’s Jezebel garnered praise when it debuted at SXSW 2019 for its portrayal of her own experiences coming-of-age as a cam girl.

On Cinco de Mayo, Danny Trejo tweeted out a first trailer for the upcoming documentary of his life, Inmate #1: The Rise of Danny Trejo. The first look alludes to Trejo’s life growing up around, and becoming involved with hard drugs, guns, and crime, eventually becoming a convict himself – and then becoming an actor by starting out as an extra, before finding his claim to fame with Machete. Trejo and those close to him narrate the doc, telling audiences how he came to realize that everything good in his life was the direct result of being good to someone else. Inmate #1 is ready to hit digital on July 7 in the U.S.
Steve Carell’s Space Force lands another trailer prior to launch
In the latest Space Force trailer, we get a closer look at the day-to-day of struggles of General Mark Naird as he takes over the POTUS’ newly launched military branch. Not only is he struggling with not leading the Air Force, his daughter (Diana Silvers) has just been suspending from school for flipping off her teacher, and his employees become increasingly suspicious of him after a particularly pricey rocket meets its demise. Space Force boasts a cast also including John Malkovich, Tawny Newsome, Ben Schwartz, Lisa Kudrow, Jimmy O. Yang, Jane Lynch, Noah Emmerich, Alex Sparrow and Don Lake. Look for it on Netflix on May 29.
