Daisy Ridley teams up with Ready or Not filmmakers for a psychological thriller

Daisy Ridley is in negotiations to join up with the Ready or Not trio, Radio Silence (Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, Tyler Gillett and Chad Villella), on the upcoming psychological thriller The Ice Beneath Her. Recently acquired by STX in a competitive bidding war, the movie will be directed by Radio Silence and the team will produce along with Andrew Lazar (American Sniper). The Ice Beneath Her is based on a book of the same name by Camilla Grebe. After a dead woman is found in the home of a prominent businessman, his old flame, an investigator, and a psychological profiler embark on parallel searches for the suspect. Per THR, the adaptation is being handled by CW Supergirl writer Caitlin Parrish.

HBO Max acquires Seth Rogen’s An American Pickle

In a recently confirmed deal, Seth Rogen’s An American Pickle is headed for HBO Max, following the cancellation of its theatrical release by Sony due to COVID-19, per Deadline. The comedy is an adaptation of the 2013 New Yorker series Sell Out by Simon Rich, who’s also on board to script and act as EP. In the movie, Rogen will play a pickle factory employee who is involved in a freak pickling incident, preserving him for a century. He wakes up in modern day Brooklyn, where he learns his only surviving relative is his great grandson – who is also played by Rogen. A release date is not yet announced, so it’s unclear if the movie will be available when HBO Max launches on May 27.

Speaking of HBO Max, the streamer just recently made a deal with Apple to make itself available on a variety of devices including Apple TV, iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. The coopetition mindset between the companies also allows anyone who’s billed for HBO Now through Apple TV channels to see an automatic upgrade to HBO Max for no extra cost.

Mickey Rourke’s Warhunt finished filming post-COVID – but not virtually

Unlike the vast majority of Hollywood, the fantasy horror movie, Warhunt, starring Mickey Rourke, stayed on set to finish filming after the COVID-19 pandemic hit its stride, per Variety. By supplying the crew with facemasks and gloves, taking crew temperatures twice daily and cleaning equipment, the Latvian government where filming was taking place allowed the crew to carry on. Producer Ya-Fai Suen says the team had to work around the country’s border closure and fly out earlier than planned to accommodate and, on set, makeup artists had to devote single kits to one actor.

Warhunt follows a group of elite American soldiers on a secret mission in the middle of World War II, who eventually become trapped behind enemy lines in Germany’s Black Forest and encounter a coven of witches.

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt meets Bandersnatch

Netflix’s Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt is taking some cues from Black Mirror with an interactive special called Kimmy vs. The Reverend. The show lets viewers decide how the story plays out, making choices between making out with Daniel Radcliffe, or taking some time to do some wedding planning; should Kimmy get married, or save another bunker of women trapped by the reverend? Figure it out when with an extremely aware Tituss Burgess when Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt: Kimmy vs. The Reverend hits Netflix on May 12. According to creator Tina Fey, there will be three separate storylines to explore.
