The Beat was on hand to check out two of the activations at this year’s mini-con aka the 2021 San Diego Comic-Con Special Edition! First, was an outdoor activation recreating moments from the hit new television show La Brea! Featuring some of present-day L.A. with the iconic La Brea sign, as well as 10,000 B.C.’s favorite animals, the activation was perfect for fans of the show!
When Eve (Natalie Zea) & Josh Harris (Jack Martin) fall into a sinkhole on a seemingly normal day in L.A., they are unexpectedly thrust back into time in a world foreign to them and with limited resources. While Eve & Josh struggle to survive and plot a way to get back to 2021, their family, Izzy (Zyra Gorecki) & Gavin (Eoin Macken), hold out hope about their survival, work with the military on a recoup mission, oh and use Gavin’s visions to help guide them!
Once they realize they’re in 10,000 B.C., thanks to the brilliance of fellow sinkhole survivor and anthropology student Scott (Rohan Mirchandaney), they’re faced with giant sloths, saber-tooth tigers, incredible weather conditions, food shortages, and unexpected tribes of guests.
One of the rare things that helps the 2021 crew make do in 10,000 B.C. is an ambulance truck that falls into the sinkhole that day. But what’s an ambulance without a medical professional? Lucky for them they have physician and ex-Navy SEAL Dr. Sam Velez (Jon Seda) and his former pre-med daughter Riley (Veronica St. Clair) to assist!
Once we left the La Brea activation, we headed on over to HBO Max’s pop-up for their upcoming DC Comics spin-off show, Peacemaker!
Following Peacemaker’s (John Cena) iconic debut in this summer’s hit, James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad, HBO Max ordered an origin series about the wildly ironic character dedicated to peace, by any means necessary.
For SDCC Special Edition, they created #PeacemakerProvingGrounds to have fans showcase their shooting skills with rubber balls against various targets and threats and an obstacle course! You live like Peacemaker for the day! It was wild, fun, and over the top, just like Peacemaker!
While they swore us to secrecy i.e. no photos on the inside and in the zone, they did treat us afterward to food and fare!
That is it for our activation highlights. Until next year, San Diego, peace out!
