According to Hollywood Reporter, FX has a Y: the Last Man TV series in the works. Written by Brian K. Vaughan and illustrated by Pia Guerra, the Vertigo comic was Vaughan’s breakout success and led to his producer role on ABC’s Lost. Vaughan is slated to be joined by Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson from Color Force, a studio best known for producing works such as Diary of a Wimpy Kid and The Hunger Games series movies.
I’m hesitant to call this an announcement as other sites, Hollywood Reporter included, seem to be doing. No one has named a source for the news, so it’s very preemptive to say that we’ll ever actually see Yorick and Ampersand on TV even if Vaughan, Jacobson, and Simpson are engaged in talks with FX. The network declined to comment on the story.
It’s notable that a movie had been in the works for nearly a decade until Vaughan announced in late 2014 that the rights had reverted back to him. In his words, he hoped that the movie could serve as a way to tell a “complete story” that would act as a springboard so that “in success, we could get tell the rest of our serialized adventure.”
