Preview: SUPERGIRL: BEING SUPER #3 continues to carve out a fascinating coming of age tale

Two issues in, and Mariko Tamaki and Joëlle Jones’ Supergirl: Being Super continues to be a gorgeously composed look at how Kara Danvers discovered the truth about her birthplace and abilities. Eschewing typical superhero slugging and the like, Tamaki and Jones have pitched this series directly in the vein of a thoughtful and considered teen drama. Much like the recent Deadman: Dark Mansion of Forbidden Love, this is another short-run winner for DC that brings new voices to the fore of their universe. Issue 3 is in stores on April 26th, here’s the solicit:

Kara Danvers’ hidden memories of her life on another planet are bubbling to the surface—but is she alone here on earth? Following the devastating events of the Midvale Earthquake, Kara and Dolly struggle to piece their lives back together—but what’s up with Coach? Their mentor is acting strangely, and her odd behavior goes from curious to downright creepy when Kara follows her back to a Lexcorp bunker deep underground. What she’s hiding will change Kara’s life forever—all will be revealed and a hero will need to be super in this penultimate chapter!

  1. I tried really hard to get into the first two issues, but nothing much happens; especially when you consider the price and page count. And this preview basically represents a repeat of the first issue in which Kara is angst-ing about not knowing her past or much about her powers. This was repeated in the second issue as well….. and this preview shows us that at least another 6-7 pages will be wasted on it as well. In the third. We get it. Really. At what point will this story move forward and actually have a point?
I was hoping this series would be something new instead of derivative and boring. This interpretation is not unique or fresh or memorable beyond a zit popping page in the first issue.
But hey…. maybe the third issue will actually have substance. I’m just not going to hold my breath.

    ART is SPECTAULAR though.

  2. I must say it was hard to find your page in search results.
You write great articles but you should rank your website higher in search engines.
If you don’t know how to do it search on youtube: how
to rank a website Marcel’s way
