NYCC ’19: Best-selling novelist R.J. Palacio to debut WHITE BIRD graphic novel

R.J. Palacio will speak on a Thursday panel with other creators about creating non-fiction stories

R.J. Palacio, the best-selling author of Wonder, is making her debut into the world of graphic novels with White Bird in October. To celebrate the book’s release — and kick off an international book tour — Palacio will participate in a non-fiction storytellers panel with several other creators on Thursday, Oct. 3 at New York Comic Con 2019.

Palacio’s international hit Wonder spent over six years on the New York Times bestseller list and was later given a film adaptation starring Julia Roberts and Owen Wilson. Following Wonder’s success, Palacio also released its companion story, Auggie & Me, where readers were introduced to Julian’s grandmother, Grandmère, who often recounts her childhood during the second World War. Now, in White Bird, Grandmère’s complete story is told — and illustrated — in its entirety; her life before the war, the harsh restrictions that change her life abruptly during the Nazi occupation of France, and the realization of someone who she once shunned turning out to be her savior. Through the power of kindness, Grandmère’s harrowing experience gracefully demonstrates the power to change hearts, make connections, and save lives.

NYCC will see Palacio and many other talented minds of the non-fiction world discussing how they chose to share their stories, and the impact they hope to send out into the world along with them.
