More Marvel comics with 200,000 print runs

6

Comicbook.com has become the go to place for Marvel print runs, with reports that Princess Leia #1 has 200,000 pre-orders and so does Spider-Gwen, which features an alternate universe Gwen Stacy with superpowers. Retailers are said to be excited about the latter:

“We are going to order 100 plus; it’s getting great buzz,” said Jared Aiosa of Elmira, NY’s Heroes Your Mom Threw Out. He cited the creative team, particularly writer Jason LaTour, as a source of excitement, saying, “Fans of Spider-Man are excited, and even those who were NEVER a fan of Spider-Man find Spider-Gwen fresh. It’s a fun almost punk spin on this character.”

Leia’s sales are less than her dad Darth’s #1, which fetched 300,000 pre-sales, and of course Star War #1’s ultra bazillions. So the ladies are still lagging. Wait until Marvel rolls’ out Mon Mothma #1, though, that will dwarf them all.

Secret Reboot or no, it looks like Marvel is having a good year.

  1. “So the ladies are still lagging.”
200,000 copies… Okay, I realize this is a result of overlap with successful franchises, but that’s still impressive, and probably buries the stereotype that guys won’t read comics with female characters.

(And then there’s Harley Quinn, which is not lagging, outselling almost every other Bat title on the list.)

So… what are the bestselling female-focused issues of the past 20 years?

Oh course we do if they’re half naked and fit.

  3. So is Leia not in Star Wars #1 at all, then? When people talk about the amount of/sales of lady-led titles, anything which doesn’t have exclusively female leads always seems to be counted as male.

Honestly, it seems silly to say anything slightly un-positive about those Spider-Gwen numbers. Those are insane, awesome! (One of those copies is for me.)
