As was swiftly revealed when DC originally announced their dual distribution model, “UCS Comic Distribution” turned out to be a new division of Midtown Comics, Diamond’s second biggest individual account, and already a mail order titan. We’ve all been wondering how Midtown would ramp up shipping all the DC comics to the 2000+ comics shops in the US. It appears that Midtown may be hiring more help, as this job listing for a Shipping Specialist in their New Hyde Park warehouse would indicate.

I expect there may be some dismay over the hourly wage – $13.50. New York State’s minimum wage is $15 an hour with exceptions:
After December 31, 2019, all employees in New York City must be paid at least $15.00 per hour. In Nassau, Suffolk and Westchester counties, it is $13.00 per hour. In the remainder of the state, it is $11.80 per hour.
New Hyde Park is in Nassau County, so this is more than the minimum wage. The job also pays health insurance, a very important perk these days.
Also, this wage ($28K a year) is actually more than some online journalists and editors make, as all the talk in the #PublishingPaidMe hashtag indicated.
I started as an intern at Abrams for 1k a month, was hired to start The Mary Sue from scratch for IIRC ~24k. I was required to live in NYC and commute. When I was forced out, I was probably one of the highest paid employees at … 42k. https://t.co/qvHPJ4ndhT

Anyway, all wage discussion aside, more comics are going to be shipped from more places, so it looks like comics industry job growth is up!
