Marvel news round-up of doom: Generation X relaunches, Iceman get his own series and more

1

A lot of Marvel and ResurrXion news and such like rolled out so here is  your handy digest of things you missed.

¶ Generation X is back! Like all previous mutant franchises, they are coming back as part of 2017’s ResurrXion. Christina Strain (Runaways, Civil War II: Choosing Sides) and artist Amilcar Pinna (Astonishing X-Men, All-New Ultimates) and cover artist Terry Dodson bring it to you next spring. These scrappy underdogs proving they have what it takes to be post-millennials AND X-men!

Once a shining beacon and safe haven for young mutants everywhere, the next class of X-Men begin their long journey right here at the Xavier Institute. But let’s face it: not all mutants are created equal. Some young mutants aren’t cut out to be the next X-Men. You just hope will survive their first run-in with a Sentinel. But Jubilee isn’t about to sell her class of underdogs short. Under her instruction and mentorship, she hopes to navigate them through growing pains and dangers that would put even the most seasoned X-Men to the test!

“Traditionally, the Xavier Institute’s been the place for societally rejected young mutants to seek shelter,” says writer Christina Strain in an interview with Marvel.com. “Once there, they’re taught how to properly harness their powers and sometimes, after graduating, some of them have gone on to become full-fledged X-Men. But let’s be real for a second. Not every young mutant is X-Men material…”

§ Iceman is back getting his own series this spring  by Sina Grace (All-New X-Men) and Alessandro Vitti (Secret Warriors, Avengers Arena) with covers by Kevin Wada. And yes he’ll still be gay. And maybe more powerful, but definitely more chill as Grace told Nerdist:

Despite being one of Marvel’s fabled “Twelve” (their upper echelon of the most powerful mutants), Iceman has never really seemed all that powerful. Sometimes his powers are crazy and off the charts, but most of the time they’re just kind of adequate. On the subject of whether or not the new Iceman series would definitively address Bobby’s power levels, Grace said, “With this series, you’ll see how much knowing yourself and understanding yourself helps inform the scope of your abilities, both as a human being and also as a superhero. We are gonna play with it to be sure, because this guy is an Omega Level mutant at the end of the day.”

  1. I’m really looking forward to that Iceman solo. Sina Grace has been doing some really nice short pieces for Marvel, and I really like that the pitch is pretty much all about character development. Can’t wait!
