PLANET OF THE APES comics license moves to Marvel

When Disney acquired Fox a few years ago, it was no surprise that franchises owned by 20th Century Fox, such as Alien and Predator, led to Marvel obtaining the comic publishing rights. are the latest properties to join Marvel’s lineup. Today the publisher announced yet another beloved property is coming back to Marvel with new Planet of the Apes comics are set for release in 2023.

Today, Marvel Entertainment announced the PLANET OF THE APES franchise is returning to Marvel Comics with all-new stories starting in early 2023! The legendary science fiction franchise has spanned over five decades with media including comics, books, films, television series, video games, and toys.

Boom! Studios was the previous publisher to hold the Planet of the Apes comics publishing license which notably featured a crossover with DC’s Green Lantern.

Marvel is no stranger to the franchise as the official press release mentions:

Marvel Comics and PLANET OF THE APES have a deep history that goes back over 40 years. Marvel first published PLANET OF THE APES stories in 1974, and in 1975, Marvel published ADVENTURES ON THE PLANET OF THE APES, full-color adaptations of the iconic Planet of the Apes films.

Editor-in-Chief C.B. Cebulski said:

“We’re thrilled to welcome Planet of the Apes back to the House of Ideas!. The new saga in the pipeline is going explore the limits of what this beloved franchise has to offer through bold comics storytelling, and we look forward to setting foot on this new adventure!”

Details on upcoming PLANET OF THE APES comic book titles, collections, reprints, and creative teams will be shared at a later date. Until then, fans can check out an all-new teaser by Salvador Larroca.

    At last they can reprint those black and white magazines from the 70s- I used to love them, but only managed to pick up the first two and had to put up with disorganised weekly comic reprints in the UK.

  2. Adventures of the Planet of the Apes were merely just colorized reprints of the movie adaptations from the black and white magazines.

    It’s those Doug Moench/Mike Ploog original stories that would open each magazine that I would like see collected and my damn dirty paws on again.
